Ben Melius came to Colorado in August, 2006, from South Orange County, California. He joined Fizakat in March, 2009, after being approached by the boys. Before committing to the band, he worked as a solo singer/songwriter and as a freelance artist to acts both in the studio and performing live. His intricate rhythmic stylings - influenced by smooth jazz and soulful R&B - add a sparkling new dynamic to Fizakat's unique sonic experience.

I'm really not that full of my self... I was born August 26, 1988 and rAISED in the hills of Colorado with some fine mountain folk. My fauther Josey Wales has been a road musican for 20 years so he lead me down this path of majic and crazyness.. wether it be going to my fauther's shows or banging on the drums at home, music and drumming has been a part of my life from a young age. I would say I have been seriously playing drums for ten years now. I have been immersing myself in to the Colorado music as much as possible. Most recently I have been planning world domination with the Fizakat boys but have shared the stage with Vince Herman (Leftover Salmon), Jeff Austin (Yonder Mountain String Band), Black Dog (John Riddele), Mountain Standard Time and many more local artist.
